Fit for Travel
We are able to dispense to all patients living more than 1 mile from the centre of Downham. Patients living within 1 mile of the centre need to take their prescriptions to a local chemist. We stock most common medication and are able to obtain other medication within 24 hours.
Repeat prescriptions are requested by ticking the desired medication on the part of the prescription print out. This should be placed in the red box in the foyer, handed in at the dispensary, posted or faxed to the surgery. Except for exceptional cases, we do not accept telephone requests due to the high risk of errors.
Prescriptions can be sent to the chemist of your choice by prior arrangement.
Please allow 4 working days (Monday to Friday) for pharmacy prescriptions.
PLEASE DO NOT COME AND COLLECT EARLIER AS YOUR PRESCRIPTION WILL NOT BE READY.
If you are ordering your prescription online, please allow 3-4 working days to be processed. If you require a more urgent prescription, we kindly request you do not use this service and instead speak to our dispensary. Again, please note we're unable to take prescriptions over the phone.
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed. Any problems please telephone 01366 388888.
